John 10:11-18 contains Jesus' famous "Good Shepherd" discourse, the fourth of His seven "I Am" statements in John's Gospel. Written by the apostle John, this passage contrasts Jesus as the caring, self-sacrificing shepherd with hired hands who abandon sheep when danger comes. Jesus is saying to his disciples (both then and now) that he is the good shepherd. There's no doubt, no question in his voice—just bold and clear, "I am the good shepherd."
