The fear he speaks of is rooted in judgment and uncertainty, but when we truly understand God’s love, that fear loses its hold. We no longer live wondering if we are accepted—we live knowing we are already loved. This passage also reminds us that our ability to love doesn’t start with us; it begins with God.
