What year did you start at Lakeview? 1999
I am a happy and enthusiastic believer in Jesus Christ who loves being a minister of the good news and caring for our church members in need. My native state is Oklahoma where I grew up in a wonderful Christian home attending a Southern Baptist church and enjoying sports, family, and school. I felt God’s call to full time Christian ministry in my senior year of high school. I enlisted in the Oklahoma Army National Guard in June of 1970 and served 5 years in the infantry. In my home town of Ada, OK. After seminary and social work school, I moved to Phoenix to do inner city mission work for the Arizona Southern Baptist Home Mission Board.
My wife taught school as we raised 2 sons, and enjoyed life in the great southwest. I’ve done community based gerontological social care management, healthcare center social work, psychotherapy, community relations, coached soccer and basketball, hiked and camped all over AZ, and worked with hundreds of wonderful people!
My father died in 2002 and my mom moved to Sun City from Oklahoma to live in 2004 which increased my joy to have her near. I have served the congregation of Lakeview UMC and the surrounding community since Feb. 1999, and I love the service that I am so blessed to provide.
Training and Education
I attended the East Central Oklahoma University graduating with a BS in sociology and speech, and serving in student government and campus ministry. I got married in my 3rd year of college, and my first son was born the next year. My graduate work was done in Ft. Worth Texas resulting in a Master’s degree in Christian Education and a Masters in Social Work.
I love to be outdoors as much as possible hiking, taking pictures, taking road trips, playing with grandchildren, tennis, exchanging jokes and funny stories, and doing cowboy action shooting matches. My wife and I have 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 5 grandchildren that keep us happily busy. We are both cancer survivors, and we cherish every day that we live.
