Bio

I am an Arizona native from Flagstaff where I attended elementary, High School and Northern AZ University. I am the youngest of three children and my dad still lives in Flagstaff in the home I grew up in. Interestingly, though I was raised in a Conservative Baptist tradition, our house was the first parsonage for the Methodist Episcopal Church in Flagstaff and was also site of the first public library in the living room of the parsonage (he didn’t need the space as he was single).

I spent 25 years in Law Enforcement with the City of Flagstaff and enjoyed a variety of assignments from patrol, investigations, communications, quality standards, and communication/information systems manager. After retiring in 1997 (from commissioned status I was still employed as a civilian manager), God reminded me of his call to full-time ministry and I left the city in 2002 to attend seminary.

I married my high school sweetheart, Valerie, on October 24, 1975. We have two children; our son Richard teaches theatre at Arcadia High. His wife, Janel is a counselor. They have a daughter, Shannon, 8 and twin boys, Andrew & Nathan – 6 years. Our daughter, Jeannette is an RN and her husband teaches in a vocational high school. They have two, Ayzling, age 5 and Ace, age 2.

Valerie was an elementary teacher and ordained in 2010. She is serving at Spirit Song fellowship, a new church start.

Training and Education

Bachelor of Science from Northern Az Univ. in Public Safety Administration, 1976
Master of Divinity, Fuller Theological Seminary, 2005

I have numerous certificates and specialty training from my Law Enforcement days, but you probably don’t want to hear about those.

Special Interests

Valerie and I love to travel and hang out with the grandkids and, of course, I enjoy riding and traveling via my 2017 Harley Davidson Ultra Limited motorcycle. We also enjoy boating, hiking or nearly anything outdoors (under 100 degrees please). I enjoy hearing people’s story and discovering how God has worked in their life.
