The Center Piece ~ Holy Communion

The Center Piece ~ Holy Communion

Matthew 26:26-28, 1 Corinthians 11:26

Through the simple act of sharing bread and juice, we connect – commune with Christians around the world and across time. Often through the time of sharing we experience God’s presence because of the holiness, the quiet, the fellowship, or simply because God is there.

When do you feel close to God? Sometimes it is seemingly random as if God picks the time and place, but sometimes, because we have ritual practices, we can expect God to be present. Communion is such a time. It is not just a ritual, but a practice of placing ourselves into an environment that is full of anticipation that immerses us in His love and grace. When you come for Holy Communion (one of our two sacraments) come with expectation, seeking God and open to what he wants you to hear and know at this particular moment. A sacrament is really the setting aside of something for a holy purpose and that’s what Jesus did with two of the most common foods. If he sets this aside as holy, how much more does he set you apart has holy, blessed, and precious?

“Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.” Edmund Burke
