Good works are not our way into God’s favor or our way to salvation but they are our response to God’s gift to us.
I remember all the handcrafted and useful things my parents and grandparents made rather than spending money buying things. Today, there is a resurgence of handcrafted items sold on-line or in small stores. This is our example of how God wants us to share his gift of grace; small gifts of service, sacrifice, and presence for others. We are God’s masterpiece created for these good works (Ephesians 2:10) and he is asking us to simply ‘be’ who we are for the benefit of others.
