Back to School 2020

Back to School Supplies ARE Needed for EARLY August Schools in some form or another will start in early August and we support the El Mirage School System.  Your Mission and Outreach Committee watched for bargains… so last year AFTER the kids went back to school and the “Backpacks” were on sale, we purchased nearly 70 of them to be filled. IF you have already purchased a backpack, great, bring it along. Our goal is 100 nice backpacks for the…

The Navajo Nation Says Thank You

The Annual Conference ended Saturday, June 13, 2020 and Billie K. Fidlin, the Director of Outreach & Justice read the following thank you from Mel Rodis from the Navajo Nation.  At that point the Desert Southwest Conference of the United Methodist Church had received over $30,000 in donations for the Water for the Navajo Nation Mission Project 2020. The Navajo Water Project District raised over $63,000. Several more churches were still collecting, as was ours – Our finally tally to…

Heifer Update

The following is from a letter I received from the President of Heifer International, Pierre Ferrari. “Heifer India is Supporting Smallholder Farmers After Cyclone Amphan”  Cyclone Amphan did an estimated $12.2 billion dollars worth of damage in West Bengai last week.  Farmers supported by Heifer India in Odisha reported extensive damage to chicken coops, kitchen gardens. And paddy fields, affecting families nutrition and sources of income.  Women farmers that are part of Hatching Hope, a project that promotes small-scale poultry…

Habitat for Humanity

Like every other organization, Habitat for Humanity has been impacted by the Corona virus.  Virtually all of Habitat’s central Arizona building projects have been suspended since March.  The only exception was the completion of one home, as it was in its final stages when the recommendations to quarantine were just beginning.  But the organization stands ready to return to providing housing options for struggling families once the critical period of infections has passed.  In the interim, Habitat is doing whatever…

Pastor John’s View June 2020

Tales from the Mountain Evan as I wrote the title for this month’s article, I had to stop and just say, “Whoa! How did we get to June and at this time of writing, I still have no idea when we will actually worship together physically. I think I was eleven when dad and I drove out to the cinder hills east of Flagstaff in our 1948 Willy’s Jeep. It was painted battleship grey and had a homemade plywood top.…

When Will We Worship Together Again

Reconnecting 2020 March 15 was our last “in-person” worship and since, we’ve been apart but together in Christ’s Spirit and through the blessing of technology allowing us to see one another and even connect despite some being thousands of miles away. But it’s not the same, is it? When will we be able to open the sanctuary doors? Governor Ducy’s order has expired and business is re-opening across the state, and you may legitimately ask, “Why aren’t we going back…

DIAL – A – PRAYER

Just this past week, I was responsible for daily recordings of reflections on Scripture on Lakeview’s Dial-A-Prayer. I wondered how many of our Lakeview family and followers begin, continue, or end their days with prayer and reflection. After all, God is in charge here, and we need his directioning. One of the amazing benefits of calling Dial-A-Prayer is that we have guided Scripture lessons, reflections and prayer time – generally contained in about six or seven minutes. The phone number…

Financial Report for February and March 2020 PRAISE GOD, PRAISE GOD, AND PRAISE GOD!!!!!!!!!!! I just wanted to keep everyone informed of the Financial Situation at Lakeview during these times of the Coronavirus.  The virus has made it much more difficult to communicate but I will be using Lakeviewumc.net website to pass on information as often as I can.  First, let’s talk about February, since we did not have a Newsletter to report February’s financial results, I first want to…

Our Third Worship Online

Here we are entering our third worship online. We certainly miss seeing each of you live and in-person and we will again, soon. I encourage you to work to engage in the worship on-line. Most of my colleagues call this “virtual worship” but that isn’t correct. “Virtual: almost or nearly, but not completely or according to strict definition.” “Worship: to show reverence and adoration to God.” We can worship anywhere and everywhere any time. People have told me for years…
