Heifer Report for July 20, 2019

Heifer Report Last Friday we visited the headquarters of Heifer International in Little Rock, Arkansas. Because of the construction and materials used, the building uses 52% less energy than a conventional building of the same size. Heifer uses graywater, rainwater captured in a collection tower, to supply non-consumable water. The windows allow the staff to work in natural light. Sensors adjust the lighting based on the darkness outside.  In 2007 Heifers Headquarters achieved the highest “Green Building” rating possible. Behind…

Heifer Update for July 2019

Heifer International The “Buzz” is over, even though I can still hear it.  Lakeview and Friends donated 44 Gifts of Honey Bees.  Now we need to direct our prayers to the recipients of these honey bees, that they may produce product for their new owners.  Product and profits so they may feed their families, educate their children and live a new life out of hunger and poverty.  May God richly bless them all. Now,  the  new program,  “Gift Ark”, which…

Heifer Update – Gift Ark

Gift Ark As of yesterday, the balance of funds for the “Gift Ark” was $1338.50. That awakened a number of the animals that are designated to go on this voyage. They are anxious to get started in helping poor and hungry folks find the help they need and deserve. Collection banks and envelopes are available in the Narthex, Chapel and Smoot Hall. Please avail yourself to these so these animals can be on their way. In Guatemala, Zacharías was introduced…

Heifer Update for May 25

Proverbs 14:31 – “Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors Him.” Bee Question – Do bees make honey in May? Have you checked the price of organic honey compared to the rest of the honey varieties? In order to be certified “organic”, the manufacturer has to meet some very stringent standards and conditions during the honey processing. These are set by an Organic Agriculture Certification body. Some are as follows:…

Heifer International Bee Quiz – How many years has beekeeping been                 in practice? A) 1000     B)  2500         C)  4500 Another product of honeybees is Propolis. Bees collect sticky resins from the buds of some trees and conifers. Sticky glue is formed when the bees chew these resins.
