We raised about 200 a year, and we ate a lot of chops, hams and bacon. Just as the recipients of our donations will. The average sow can provide a family with up to 16 piglets a year. Sun Sitaol of Cambodia was hesitant when Heifer offered him 3 piglets but also told him…

Heifer Update for December 2020

Heifer Update 12-7 The “GPS” Program got off to a terrific start on December 1.  Day 1 of the program a Goat was donated.  When we think of goats, the first thing that comes to mind is milk.  Milk and the milk products are critical elements in starting a family toward ending their life in hunger and poverty.  Goats typically have 2 or 3 kids a year, so starting a herd can happen relatively fast.  Goats also produce nutritious meat…

Heifer Update for October 2020

Heifer Update for Oct. 5, 2020 Today we will visit Benjamin Masembi Kyengo from Kenya.  Benjamin lived a hard life before Heifer.  He was married at 22, had 3 children, and worked on the dock – loading and unloading cargo for low pay.  With his savings he bought a gas stove, not knowing it had been stolen.  One of the men who had stolen it pointed the finger at Benjamin.  He spent 2 years in jail in a room with…

What’s happening with the Heifer Project At home and around the world, God’s children are responding to the coronavirus pandemic.  People involved in Heifer programs have developed new markets, implemented practices of hand washing, mask wearing, social distancing and new means of greeting and communicating with each other.  Briefly, here are a few examples from around the world. Ecuador – A group of small-scale farmers are packaging 300 food baskets a week, then delivering to those in quarantine. Bangladesh –…

Heifer Report for May 2020

Heifer Update Quack,Quack,Quack.  That’s one quack from each of the three flocks of ducks that were sent out today. Three more families will be able to free themselves from hunger and poverty.  I am so proud that the Lakeview United Methodist Men have such outstanding support. I haven’t for some time given you the calculation of how many families have been blessed by your generosity.  I’ll do that next week.  You and I will be amazed at the numbers.  We…

The balance at the end of the  “Heifer – Joy to the World”  Program was $160.  We donated a llama ($150), one of the gift basket animals, leaving $10 to carry over to the “Flock Sale-2.”  Thank you all for a very successful program.  Now, about the “Flock Sale” it will run for at least two months.  Poultry flocks are desperately needed in India.  Following is a post from Heifer International on Facebook, February 24: “We need your help.  A…
