Life after rain

In God’s Own Time

Psalm 65:5-13 Abundant harvests. Streams filled with water. Soil softened for planting by the rain . Psalm 65 describes the beauty that results when God waters the earth. For this gift of creation we all shout and sing together for joy! We moderns complain about the rain and the temporary discomfort it causes, but rain is a time for celebration. The renewing waters are essential to our survival. Whenever I pray publicly and it is raining, I usually pray in…

This Weeks scripture Hebrews 7:23-28 The Message (TheBible In Contemporary Language) A Permanent Priesthood 23-25 Earlier there were a lot of priests, for they died and had to be replaced. But Jesus’ priesthood is permanent. He’s there from now to eternity to save everyone who comes to God through him, always on the job to speak up for them. 26-28 So now we have a high priest who perfectly fits our needs: completely holy, uncompromised by sin, with authority extending…

LUMM – Heifer International

Heifer Update Another exciting week! First, a generous donation allowed the Methodist Men to purchase 3 pigs. A chance for more of God’s less fortunate to raise themselves out of hunger and poverty – Praise God! Then, we received a donation toward sending a “girl to school”. We now have $100 of the $275 needed to make the school bell ring again. Following is another success story from Cambodia showing us that pigs are a viable animal to help feed…

Hearts, Minds, Love

Jeremiah 31:27-34 God speaks through the prophet Jeremiah to Judah and its neighbors during the turbulent times of its history both politically and religiously. Jeremiah comes as a prophet of comfort. Through Jeremiah God assures the people of Israel that  after exile will come restoration. God will establish a new covenant. Unlike the old covenant on stone tablets, God promises a new covenant “in their minds and … on their hearts.” God will not pass the sins of one generation…

Generations of the Faithful

Lamentations 1:1-6 The book of Lamentations, often ascribed to the prophet Jeremiah, contains five poems of mourning that make up the five chapters. Written at the time of the Babylonian capture and takeover of Judah, these poems describe the sorrow and suffering the Jews felt and experienced during this national tragedy. Many Hebrew lamentations began with the Hebrew word for “how”-ekhah. In verse 1, the word how begins the first sentences, so in the Hebrew canon, this book is named…

Generations of the Faithful

Luke 17:1-10 Sometimes we need the “whole story” in order to understand what’s happening. The first four verses of Luke 17 shed some additional light on the disciples and us as generations of the faithful. Jesus has just given the disciples some “hard” teachings:  you better not cause another to stumble in his or her faith journey;  you will need to rebuke other disciples if they sin; and  you must forgive those who repent and ask forgiveness, even if it’s…
