Praising God

Psalm 148:7-14 When did you last pay attention to the world around you? Recently I traveled to a major city and marveled at the beauty and majesty around me. Towering buildings, miles of connecting highway arteries, and sprawling greenways of parks and trails filled the “city proper.” On the way to the airport, about five miles out of the city, we encountered some of the most beautiful farmland I’ve ever seen. The horses and cows were of prize winning quality.…

Fearful & Fearless

Thoughts from the Director of Music Sunday afternoon seems to be my reflection time. I usually finish my planning for the next Sunday – hymns, anthems, responses, instrumental music, vocal solos, etc.  I try to think about each musical element and what it will contribute to our worship. I recently found the following article and thought it did a good job explaining approaches to God in worship. He asks the questions, “Is our approach fearful or fearless?”  Here is his…

Prayer Shawl & Lap Robes

OUR PRAYER SHAWL & LAP ROBE MINISTRY Recently, I was reminded of the powerful experience generated by presenting a prayer shawl or lap robe to a person who is homebound or recovering from a serious illness or injury. I though many of us might like to know more about this project so I am attaching an article on…

Do You Love Me

Transformation

John 21:15-19 Some of our best moments come after a good meal. Jesus addresses impetuous Peter, asking three times, “Do you love me?” Each time Peter declares his love, Jesus tells Peter to “feed my lambs,””tend my sheep,” and “feed my sheep.” the repeated questions frustrates Peter and hurts his feeling. Peter affirms love of Jesus and faithfulness to the task. But Jesus recognizes Peter’s youthful impetuosity and indicates that the journey to maturity will bring difficulties not even imagined…

“Fill the Ark” Again

“Fill the Ark” Now that was exciting, seeing Noah deliver the “Fill the Ark” banks to the Altar! The summary of his voyage will be reported in next week’s bulletin. The banks have been removed from the Chapel and Worship Center. When gathering them, I noticed that there was NO expiration date on them. I really don’t want to recycle them until they have been used at least one time. So, I invite each of you to take one home,…
Traveling

I Shall Not Want

John 10:22-30 Growing up in the Texas panhandle, my family drove many miles across wide open spaces for vacations or to visit family. My brother would read and I would sleep. My grandmother sat between us to keep the peace in the backseat. After a while the monotony of the miles would take its toll, and one of us would start the eternal questions: “Are we there yet?” “How much longer?” We were impatient passengers along for the ride. “How…
